Destination

DestinationI thought it would be an idea to get a glimpse of the final product I'm working towards.

Here you see how the bunk can look with a mattress and quilt all in place.

You can also see I've been experimenting with lighting, though that's not by any means a final decision.

I can report that it's extremely comfortable to lie across the bunk, up against the curve of the hull, reading.

Further testing reveals the need for bedside shelving, to store essentials such as cups of tea and phones/music players.

Oh yes, and some kind of storage close to hand, for current clothes and suchlike, would also make life so much easier.

  1. A very comfy looking bunk indeed. I assume you have thought of this, but under bunk drawers would work beautifully for a good amount of storage. Maybe even a door on the one end to take advantage of that odd space in the corner.

Also, are you going to paint the pine? A creamy-white with red/brown trim always looks sharp. Painting below seems like a decent cold weather project.

  2. Hi Marc

The plan is the pine will be stained white - to retain the wood look underneath and brighten the place up.

What colour the trim will be is anyone's guess at the moment.

Definitely drawers underneath, with a built in step for easier access to the bunk, though how that corner space gets used is not decided.

    Cheers

  3. You are of course going to fill in the angle brackets (steel knees) where the deck meets the hull. I guess a strip of flashing LEDs behind some misted perspex could be a contender? or a few LED lights operated from a bedside dimmerswitch? ! My preference would be a nice piece of matching pine, and a bracket for the flat-screen (thin) TV so I could watch it in bed or when the forward pointing TV camera is on, along with the engine room, wheel-house rear deck etc camera system? which I could flip through at will? :o))

  4. Hi Rob

I've a long way to go yet, but some of that is well in hand already.

Hey Tim. Looks great! Where exactly on the vessel, are these bunks located?
