I often get asked 'What are your plans for Lady Jane?' This, I find, is a difficult question to answer as the plans seem to shift as time goes on. I recall being in a similar position when being asked what I wanted to do when I left school. Now with Lady Jane, as was then, anything is possible if I put my mind to it. It just depends....
Broadly speaking my plans comprise two separate parts, although they are very much inter-linked. The first part of the plan is how we will convert Lady Jane from an ex fishing trawler into a small ship, the second part involves the travel plans we have, in terms of where we take Lady Jane and what we do. I'll cover the travel plans in a separate entry.

For the conversion, I envision moving the wheelhouse forwards and outwards, creating a much larger wheelhouse and chart room with cabin space for the skipper and behind that, a suite for Kate and myself. Below the wheelhouse and new cabins, we will install a modern galley, dining area and living room, with guest cabins below in the space which was the fish hold.
The picture of Kalypso, a Greek ferry we saw in Kos, gives you an idea of what can be done with Lady Jane in terms of build forward, although I like to think we will have Lady Jane look a little more stylish somehow. We'll also build cabins behind the wheelhouse.
Both Kate and I dive so the existing galley will become the workshop, with space for equipment such as dive gear and compressor. If it's practical, we will cut gateways into the sides of Lady Jane, making it easier to get on and off, especially when swimming or diving.
In all of the planning Kate, and what she wants, and of course money play a major role. In addition, I don't want to do anything on Lady Jane which may compromise her suitability for some sort of commercial role in the future, like charters, a diving live aboard or even survey work.
Note that all plans are subject to sudden and drastic change without warning.
