Next blog will be on Thursday

It's a boat day tomorrow, so my next blog entry will likely be on Thursday 3rd Feb.

I'm taking the rib down to Fareham to have the engine looked at. As it happens, the place is right next door to the yard where Lady Jane is at.

Hopefully this will not be too expensive a trip....Yeah right, this is boats!

I've always found it easier to think of expenses as "boat dollars" vs "regular dollars" to make it seem less insane... about 100 to one feels right.

  2. I am curious. Does LJ require a person in the engine room full time when under way? If so, what are your thoughts on this? Are you going to do this job? (It can't be much fun sitting in the engine room on a pleasure cruise).

  3. Good question Cayuga, maybe I'll do a blog entry on it sometime soon. The short answer to your question is the engine needs intermitent monitoring and attention, akin to checking the fuel/gas guage in your car on a long trip.

There is no shortage of things to do in the engine room, so I doubt being ship's engineer will be dull - even on a long voyage. I obviously can't speak from experience. Being Ship's engineer on the short trip we did was pretty intense for me though.
